The library is designed to house an extensive private collection of contemporary art volumes. It provides a research area for the owner, an internationally recognized contemporary art historian. While responding to the materials and massing of the existing home, the library addition is separated from the original structure by a transparent circulation spine that allows it to be seen as separate and distinct. Carefully placed window openings in the library provide ample day lighting in the library, while simultaneously protecting the collection from exposure to direct sunlight.
